A section of Black MIDI music. Large numbers of notes are layered in close proximity to one another, meaning that a traditional musical score appears almost completely black - hence the name 'Black MIDI' Black MIDI is a music genre consisting of compositions that use files to create a song remix containing a large number of notes, typically in the thousands or millions, and sometimes billions. People who make black MIDIs are known as blackers. However, there are no specific criteria of what is considered 'black'; as a result, finding an exact origin of black MIDI is impossible.

Black MIDI was first employed in Shirasagi Yukki at Kuro Yuki Gohan's rendition of 'U.N. Owen Was Her?'
, an extra boss theme from the shooter video game. It was uploaded to the site in 2009, and public awareness of Black MIDI started to spread from Japan to China and Korea in the following two years. In its beginning years, Black MIDIs were represented visually with traditional, two-stave piano sheet music, contained a number of notes only in the thousands. They were created with MIDI sequencers such as Music Studio Producer, and Singer Song Writer, and played through MIDI players such as MAMPlayer. • ^ Conner, Michael (September 23, 2013).

General CommentThe song was conceived as a standard but very sincere mourning over a lost relationship. 'the day you went away' is already within them, and the singer is left to struggle with its implications. Intentional or not, this adds new perspective to the second verse and has perhaps contributed to the song's status as a continued M2M fan favorite. The meaning of the song is compounded by the fact that M2M was broken up by Atlantic Records on Sunday, September 22, 2002, years after the song was written. Despite the question near the end 'why do we never know what we've got till it's gone', the singer and her boyfriend did recognize what was lost as it was ending, but the mystery of the song is that they couldn't stop (or perhaps on some other level decided that they shouldn't stop) what had become inevitable.
